Week 3 - The Glove

We decided to play with the gesture of pinching, after the much inspired iPhone photo resizing demo. Since we have a simple pressure sensor and not a touch screen interface, we will be taking the resistance numbers from the area between the thumb and index finger.

We are measuring the resistance caused from the bend in the sensor at that area on the hand. When the thumb and index finger are open, the numbers average around 750. When pinching, the resistance drops to an average of 300.

The use of a glove creates a base where the sensor can be anchored securely without the worry of sweaty palms loosening the tape. Decided to connect "permanent" wires to the sensor and run them down the finger and thumb to the wrist. Having the alligator clips connected directly to the sensor was not ideal because of the length of cable and more importantly, they reduced the streamlined feeling and look of the glove.

From this, we hope to build upon this sensor and apply this pinch gesture to MaxMSP. Perhaps create our own photo resizing control.
